Upgrades to an item are a way to boost the stats of an item. Based on the type of upgrade it can boost an item's Mark Level or Rarity and boost additional stats.

Upgrading gear in The War Within requires a certain number of Flightstones and Crests, and each item has an upgrade track. Each upgrade increases the price of the next item by a specified amount.

Item Level

The value of an item's stats base increases as it is upgraded. This value is the sum of all of an item's leveled-up perks (attack magic attack and defense). Upgrades can be costly, dependent on who you employ and what you decide to do. This is due to the sheer number of perks that must be altered to upgrade an item upgrader mod.

It is also used as a gating requirement when queueing for dungeons, raids and scenarios. It also serves as a gating requirement when waiting to queue for dungeons and scenarios and raids, and to limit the amount of PvP gear players can wear (since PvP is restricted to an lower level). Players can view their average level of items on their character sheet.

Using the item level can help players compare the power of equipment when they decide to buy or sell. It's a sign of the item's condition and quality. The item level can also be used to evaluate items when evaluating the inventory of a seller.

On PC, you are able to view the item level by pressing ALT or using the left stick on XB1 or PS4. This will show the full description of the item, including its ilvl. You can also find it by hovering over an item and typing in /itemlevel chat.

There are a few theories about how the calculation of the item's level is done. One theory is that the level is a numerical value derived from a formula which calculates the amount an item's stats are worth. It considers that different benefits are valued differently and that gems in sockets boost the value of the item. This process could result in a calculated value for the item's ilvl, which is typically close to Blizzard's real level of the item.

It's not the only thing that affects the value of an item. The level of the area where the item was dropped may change its stats. For instance, it could add a level to the item's haste or crit score. This means that items dropped at higher levels will have more ilvl than those from lower-level instances.

Item Stats

The stats of an item can be the difference between a good or bad item for players. The game makes use of a lot of them in various ways to encourage players to play with a variety of weapons, and also to stop one weapon from being "the most effective." The stat mods on a weapon boost the base stats. These stat mods are then increased by a player's level.

Upgrades to an item can increase the stats of an item. The rarity of an item upgrading determines its upgrade cost. An item that is white or grey, for example, will only be upgraded one time and items that has rare tiers can be upgraded multiple times with higher costs.

Another method of altering the stats on an item is through affixes. These are special stat boosts that can be added to an item by the player, and are available in all sizes and shapes. The affixes could provide the item additional damage, add a special capability to the item (such as reviving dead or cutting down the cooldowns), or make the item unique by adding an exclusive name to the item.

All affixes are being re-rolled right now by selecting them in the upgrade window, pressing the green button. It will cost a set amount in gold and other items. They can also be used as upgrade gauges just like the other rerolling methods.

In addition to rerolling affixes, players can select which of the available stats to keep on an item after it is upgraded. The possible ranges of stats for an item are determined by the item level, but every item is guaranteed to have at least 1 stat within the specified range, unless it's an exclusive item or the result of a God roll from a boss of a raid.

Another thing that could be changed by adding the option to upgrade the equipment without rerolling the affixes or deciding which stats to increase. Like the base equipment, this would have to be done per item and the interface for item comparison will not show all possible stats simultaneously.

Item Luck

The Luck stat of a player stacks up to increase the odds of finding items, the properties spawned on loot drops and the intensity of the properties. It doesn't, however, directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It provides players with the chance to upgrade their equipment earlier in the game. This is more useful for early game runs, because players tend to put the scaling of weapons and defenses over raw damage gains.

In addition to influencing item discovery, Luck also increases the chances of success when upgrading items with the Blacksmith. This is not to be confused with the Blacksmith's overall chances of upgrading that increase with each item level. It is also possible to be increased with the use of anti-materials, such as a Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing.

The shields, armor and weapons come with the default Luck value of 40. These items can then be enhanced with golden ingots, spined leather, or oak boards (depending on the type of material used) to grant a further +40 Luck or to increase the Luck of an item, up to 140.

Moreover some items, such as the Hollow weapon, which is infused with Hollow, can be equipped to boost the damage of any damage-dealing skill by five percent. These items can be bought from the shop, or they can be crafted using the right ingredients.

Item Failure

Upgrades to items can be a costly process and not all upgrades will succeed. However, there are some cash shop items which allow players to increase their chance of success or stop themselves from losing an item in the event that the upgrade fails.

The success rate of an upgrade item is shown in the Honing UI. The percentage indicates the probability of successfully upgrading an item. This can be increased with Additional Materials or Special materials. The chance of success can only be increased so high, and the probability that an upgrade will fail can't exceed 100%..

The performance of an upgrades is also influenced by the luck of the item. Each item has an overall success rate of 25 percent, and each item with Luck increases the chance of success by 5%.

Note that upgrades to items are rendered above the items in the inventory therefore enchantment glints and other effects may be obstructed by the overlays. If you wish to disable the upgrade item overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
