Item upgrades are a way to boost the stats of an item. Based on the type of upgrade item, it can boost an item's Rarity or Mark Level and increase other stats.

Item Level

The value of an item's stats base increases when it is upgraded. The value is the sum of all of an item's leveled-up perks (attack magic attack and defense). Upgrades to items can be costly depending on the upgrader and the kind of upgrade you decide to do. This is because of how many perks must be replaced in order for the item to be upgraded.

The level of an item is a commonly used measurement of power and is visible on all tooltips of items. It also serves to determine a gating condition when waiting for dungeons, scenarios, and raids, as well as to limit the amount of PvP gear that a player can wear (since PvP is capped at an lower level). The average level of an item can be found on the character sheet.

When deciding whether to purchase or sell equipment players can evaluate the item level. It's a useful gauge of an item's worth and how much damage it's capable of dealing with. The item level can also be used to evaluate items when evaluating a vendor's inventory.

The item level can be checked by pressing the ALT key on your PC or using the left stick (L3) on XB1 and PS4. This will display the item's full description, including ilvl. You can also find it by hovering over an item and typing in /itemlevel chat.

There are many theories about the method by which the level of an item is calculated. One theory states that the level of an item is calculated using a formula that calculates the value of an item's stats really are. Players can choose to upgrade an item to a specific stat, or reroll attaches. The range of stats is determined by the item's level. However, all items will have at least one stat within that range unless they are an item that is unique or an item that has a God Roll from a raid boss.

This is another thing that can be modified by introducing an option to upgrade the equipment without rolling the affixes or choosing which stats to boost. Similar to the base equipment, it must be done per item, and the interface for item comparison would not display all the possible stats simultaneously.

Item Luck

A player's Luck stat stacks up to increase the chances of finding items as well as the properties that appear on loot drops and the strength of the properties. It doesn't, however directly impact damage or the ability to upgrade items. It provides players with an opportunity to get better gear earlier in the game. This is particularly beneficial in early game runs because players tend to put the scaling of weapons and defenses over raw damage gains.

Luck can also increase the likelihood of upgrading items at the Blacksmith. This should not be confused with the Blacksmith's overall chance of upgrading, which increases with each level and can be further increased through the use of an anti-material such as a Scroll of Strength or a Jewel of Blessing.

Weapons, shields, and armor can be made or spawn by using the Luck property, which has the default value of 40. These items can be improved with golden ingots, or spined leather (depending on the type of material) to increase the value of 40 luck or to boost the Luck of an item up to 140.

Certain items, like the weapon with Hollow-infused components can also be crafted to increase the damage dealt by any skill that causes damage by 5%. These items can be purchased at the store, or they can be constructed using the right ingredients.

Item Failure

Item upgrades are a costly process and not all upgrades will be successful. Cash shop items can be used to increase the success rate of an upgrade or to stop players from losing their items if it fails.

The rate of success of an upgrade can be seen in the Honing UI. The percentage indicates the probability of successful upgrading an item. This can be increased by using Additional Materials or Special materials. The probability of success can only be increased so much, and the chance that an upgrade will fail cannot exceed 100%..

The Luck of an item may affect the effectiveness of an upgrade. Every item has a success rate of 25 percent, and every item with Luck increases the chance of success by five percent.

Note that upgrades to items are rendered above the inventory items, so enchantment glint and other effects could be masked by the overlays. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
