World of Warcraft Upgrades and Item Upgrading

Upgrades can boost the value of certain numeric statistics on armor, weapons and rings. They also boost extra bonuses, such as PvE damage and crit chance.

For instance an item with the upgrade template ending in % will gain 3% attack damage every time it is upgraded (relative to its previous value).

The cost for upgrading items increases when they reach the current level of the item. The cost increases as the item level rises.

Components

Upgrade components can be added to trinkets, armor, and weapons in order to give them a boost in stats or add a bonus effect. They can be obtained through crafting, purchasing from vendors, trading with other players or looting. Certain upgrades also come with special cosmetic effects.

Upgrade components can be inserted into any equipment with a slot for them. The item must be at least upgraded to the blue level to allow a component to be used. In contrast to other mods components can only be used one time; they cannot be applied multiple times or replaced with new upgrades. Infusions and enrichments are a specific type of upgrade component that is used to upgrade non-amulet ascended or legendary equipment as well as the non-ascended back items. Infusions and Enrichments can be obtained by salvaging equipment from the ascended state or completing a mission in the Prophecies, Factions, and Nightfall campaigns.

A suffix or prefix can be added to an upgrade, which alters the name of the item upgrade it's used on (for example, 'Canthan Armor Insignia',' changes to Canthan Armor Minor Vigor). Some upgrades boost an item's Mark Level or Rarity, allowing players to create stronger versions of the equipment with the smallest amount of Upgrade Crystals than is required to reach the same level of upgrade through normal methods.

A boost upgrade can alter the attack or defense attributes of the weapon or armor. These upgrades can be made using the Portative Forging Station once the player has completed the cutscene and defeats the Crazed mechanic. These upgrades can be obtained by purchasing them in the cash shop or by obtaining them from enemies when upgrading other gear.

Each upgrade increases the probability that a better-quality version of the item will be available at the next reset. This gives the player an incentive to keep upgrading their gear even if they're uncertain of the extent to which it will improve following a subsequent reset.

The boost upgrade may be successful or not, the process can be costly and there is a substantial chance that the item could become obsolete or even break when it fails. A failed upgrade will ruin Upgrade Crystals and Assist Powder, as well as the upgraded item. This is alleviated by the availability cash shop items to double or even eliminate possibility of failure, as well as a few upgrades that give an additional benefit when they are inserted into an item.

Glyphs

Glyphs can be used to upgrade the Paragon Board by placing them in special sockets. Glyphs can boost the performance of nodes within a radius, and include any pre-existing affixes. Glyphs can be upgraded many ways, and we suggest getting them up to level 15 as soon as you can.

In the endgame you'll often discover that the best way to improve your gear is by placing Glyphs. They are the only upgrade component that can be upgraded directly to level 15, and they provide an enormous boost to your power and radius on the Paragon Board, enabling you to climb higher nodes more quickly.

Glyphs, the only upgrade component which can be removed without restriction and then replaced with no restrictions, are the most common. Only legendary equipment can be salvaged and re-placed using a Black Lion Salvage Kit.

The value of each Glyph is displayed when you choose it in your inventory. You can replace it with another Glyph that is the same or higher rank to boost the value of the Glyph.

Glyphs can be found in the Black Lion Trading Post as part of a Gem Store bundle or purchase, with certain unlimited-use tools, and during Faction Crypt Raids. Each Faction Crypt can drop one of these Glyphs. There are also some rare glyphs which you can find in any of the Faction Crypts.

Once you have gotten the desired Glyphs you will need them to be placed on your equipment. Each Glyph unlocks a unique bonus which will boost a specific set of stat nodes within a radius around the Glyph. Depending on the Glyph the bonus will be +40 to one of your primary stats or +25 to two of your secondary stats.

Glyphs boost all nodes connected to them, so it is best to put Glyphs in strategic locations on the Graph. This will increase the impact. Druids for instance should put their Glyphs close to their primary damage nodes. They might also consider placing them near their most critical damage nodes.

Leveling

The item upgrading system allows players to improve the stats of specific items by putting upgraded components into them. This is often referred to as "upping". Each upgradeable item has a level that determines the final statistics. Upgraded items can be leveled to a maximum of ilvl 385. Each level of an item requires various components, and upgrade costs increase with each level.

Some upgrades require a special ingredient to activate. This ingredient is obtained by completing Upgrade Recipes. These recipes can be purchased from NPCs or found on the upgrade tab in crafting tables. Each completed Upgrade Recipe earns several Technology Points. These points can be used to upgrade the item upgrader mod, and when enough points have been earned, the upgrade will be claimed and its additional bonuses will be added to the item.

When a player upgrades an item it is replaced with a different item of the same type. The same armor will be upgraded to the form of a weapon or shield when upgraded. The new item will also have a unique bonus. This can be a disadvantage in that it could make the item more expensive if you don't need it.

If the player has enough tokens they can reroll item upgrades. This will cause the item to be traded for a new one, which will have the level 1 base, and a totally different set of extra bonuses. This is a good idea, but should not be repeated often since it can be a waste of resources.

Certain upgrades can boost their value and allow players to personalize their equipment. Dolphin's Gift is a good example, as it provides a buff if the player continuously enters or leaves the water. This item can be upgraded many times, increasing the maximum roll every time by 10 increments. This item is extremely useful in PvP. A well-rolled version could be worth as much as 50x the value of the non-upgraded counterpart.

Requirements

The ability to upgrade items allows players to upgrade the level of their available equipment--armor, weapons, and trinkets that are above ilvl 385 by providing the appropriate items and currencies to an item upgrader NPC. Upgrades to armor set pieces also boost the defense of the base set and upgrades to weapon items boost their base damage and also increase their strength and dexterity.

Each item can be upgraded a maximum of five times, with the exception of hero gear that can be upgraded with eight upgrades. Every time you upgrade an object, it has a chance of failing. The probability of failure increases when you exceed the maximum number. Failures will cause the item to revert back to its original condition, which requires the user to spend more money on materials than they would had they stopped upgrading at the highest number of upgrades.

If an item is not upgraded, the experience bar in its growth bar will reset to zero. Additionally the item will be deducted any gained bonuses such as crit chance and attack damage, and all additional effects associated with that effect (for example, increased heal over time or the speed of reloading). However, the user can continue to use the weapon or armor after the failure.

When an item is upgraded the upgrades are applied from the lowest to the highest. This means that if a weapon gains a crit chance increase it will be applied before any damage from attacks increases. Slots is a new attribute that was added to the definitions of items. The value is recalculated every time an upgrade occurs.

The amount of resources required to upgrade an item are based on its rarity rating and the number of upgrade slots. The upgrade cost for non-premium items is the same as the base value of the upgrade--for instance, a typical equipment item level upgrade may have five upgrades with a cost of 25600 Technology Points 4x Quality Improvement Chance. Hero quality items have a lower cost per upgrade.

Premium items have different requirements for upgrading than standard gear--for instance, they may require fewer sowels, but they will require more minerals and erons. However, players will have to visit the NPC [Armor] Boboko in Central Flarine with each piece of equipment they want to upgrade. In addition to the upgrade cost mentioned above, each upgrade requires a different amount of the upgrade ingredients.
