Item upgrades are a way to boost the stats of an item. Depending on the type of upgrade you choose, it can increase an item's Rarity or Mark Level and boost additional stats.

Each item has a track for upgrading it. Each upgrade increases the cost of the next one by a specific amount.

Item Level

When an item is upgraded, its basic stats increase in value. The value is the sum of all of its leveled up benefits (attack, magic attack and defense). Upgrades can be expensive, depending on who you hire and what you do. This is because of how many perks have to be replaced in order for the item to get upgraded.

It is also used as a gating requirement when queueing for raids, dungeons and scenarios. It also serves to limit the amount of PvP gear players can use, since PvP is limited at a lower level. The average level of an item is listed on the character sheet.

Using the item level can help players evaluate the power of equipment when choosing to buy or sell. It's a useful indicator of an item's quality and how much damage it will be capable of causing. Comparing items from a vendor's stock can be done using the item level.

On your PC, you can see the level of the item by pressing ALT or by using the left stick on XB1 or PS4. This will display the item's full description, including ilvl. You can also find it by hovering over an item and typing in /itemlevel chat.

There are a variety of theories on how the level of an item is calculated. One theory is that the level is a number derived from a formula that determines the amount an item's stats are worth. It considers that different advantages are valued differently and that gems in sockets increase the value of the item. This process can result in a calculated amount for the item's level, which is usually quite close to the actual Blizzard level of the item.

It's not the only factor that influences the value of an item. The level of the area where the item dropped can also alter its stats. For instance, it could increase the item's haste or crit rating. This means that items that drop at higher levels will have more the ilvl than items from lower level instances.

Item Stats

Stats on an item are a significant element in what makes or breaks an item for players. The game utilizes them in many ways to encourage players not to limit themselves to one weapon and to encourage them to try out other weapons. The stats of a base weapon are enhanced by the weapon's stat mods that are in turn boosted by the player's level.

Upgrades to an item can boost its stats. The rarity of an item determines the cost of upgrading. An item that is white or grey, for example, will only be upgraded once and items with rare tiers can be upgraded several times at more expensive costs.

Affixes are another way to change an item's stats. These are special stat boosts that can be added to an item by the player, and they come in all shapes and sizes. The affixes can be used to provide items with extra damage or other special abilities (such as revitalizing dead or reducing cooling downs), or to make them unique by adding a name.

Presently, all affixes are able to be modified by selecting them in the upgrade window and pressing the green button, which is accompanied by circling arrows. It will cost a set amount of gold and other items. They can also be used as upgrade gauges, similar to other methods of rerolling.

Players can upgrade item an item with specific stats or reroll attaches. The stat ranges are determined by the item's level. However every item will contain at least one stat in that range unless they are a unique item, or an item that has a God Roll from a raid boss.

Another thing that could be changed is the possibility to upgrade equipment without having to reroll attaches, or select which stats to increase. Like the base equipment, this must be done per item, and the Best item upgrader comparison interface would not display all the possible stats simultaneously.

Item Luck

The Luck stat for a player adds up to increase the likelihood of finding items as well as the properties that appear on loot drops, and the intensity of the properties. However, it doesn't directly impact damage or the ability to upgrade items. It provides players with the chance to upgrade gear earlier in the game. This is more advantageous in early game runs since players tend to prioritize the scaling of weapons and defenses over raw damage gains.

Luck can also increase the likelihood of upgrading items at the Blacksmith. This isn't to be confused with the Blacksmith's overall chance of upgrading that increase with each item level. It is also possible to be increased by using anti-materials, such as a Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing.

Weapons, shields, and armor can be made or spawn by using the Luck property, with a default value of 40. These items can be augmented with golden ingots, or spined leather (depending on the material they are made of) to add another 40 luck or to increase the Luck of an item up to 140.

Certain items, like the weapon with Hollow-infused components can also be outfitted to increase the damage dealt by any ability that is able to deal damage by five percent. These items are available in the shop or created by using the appropriate ingredients.

Item Failure

Upgrades to items can be costly and not all upgrades will be successful. Cash shop items can be used to increase the chances of success for an upgrade, or to protect players from losing their item in the event that it is not successful.

When you upgrade an item upgrade (try git.openprivacy.ca) the success rate is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the probability of successfully upgrading that item, and can be enhanced by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. The chance of success can only be increased by so much, and the chance that an upgrade will fail can't exceed 100%.

The luck of an item may affect the success of an upgrade. Every item has an average success rate of 25%, and each item with Luck increases the chance of success by 5percent.

Note that item upgrades are rendered above the inventory items, so enchantment glint and other effects could be masked by the overlays. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
