Path of Exile item upgrades (world-news.wiki officially announced)

item upgrade upgrades are a common and important way to improve the performance of a variety of items in Path of Exile. They can be a great source of extra damage or more AD or even more attaches.

Sometimes, however, upgraded Common and Magic gear is outclassed by Rare-grade equipment due to their requirements.

Armor

Armor upgrades are a form of upgrade that can be used on armor and weapon items. They increase the effectiveness of the item upgrade they're attached to. Upgrades to armor can be found in the world of games and can be purchased from Blacksmiths at bonfires. They can also be salvaged by using an expert or higher salvage kits to recover upgrade components from items.

The amount of damage a piece of armor or weapon will absorb is contingent on the level of its upgrades. The ability to absorb damage of an item level upgrade of armor will increase when it is upgraded to the highest upgrade level. However, it's important to be aware that this upgrade will raise its weight, requiring it to weigh more than it was before.

There are many different kinds of armor upgrades that are available in the game. Each has a different effect. For instance, certain upgrades will grant the armor a certain amount of health points while others make it lighter and stronger. The name of the armor upgrade will indicate the kind of upgrade an item can receive, as shown below.

Some of the upgrades also require magic or a hybrid technology and magic, which are identified by the "Magic" and "Hybrids" entries in the table. Some upgrades also require a charge to use, which is shown by an "Charges" entry in the table below. The charges associated with these upgrades refresh daily or never expire dependent on the upgrade.

Iron Ore is the cheapest option to upgrade your armor. You can locate it by exploring and looting small loot chests. Titanium is more expensive, however it is obtainable from the smelters in Orgrimmar and Stormwind City. Certain upgrades, like the Reforge and the Hot Potato Books, can only be applied to higher level armor pieces. These upgrades can give significant boost to stats and are a worthwhile investment, especially for 1-handed weapons.

A piece of armor upgraded to max upgrade level will greatly boost its defense, but the player should be aware that putting more weight on it will drastically reduce its speed and agility. Therefore, it is generally not recommended to upgrade the majority of armor pieces beyond +9, since the defensive boost gained is typically not worth the additional weight and power cost of the upgrades needed.

Weapons

Weapon upgrades let players increase the effectiveness of certain aspects of the weapon. For example an upgrade could improve the damage that is caused by shotgun shells or the accuracy of the sniper rifle. Some weapons have special upgrades to improve their inherent capabilities. Frictionless materials (improves stability, minimizes weapon overheating) and Kinetic coils (increases the projectile's speed for greater damage) are two examples.

The majority of upgrades for weapons require the use of a whetblade, or one of the three Power Dices and a different amount of Minerals and Erons. These are obtained through either completing Side Quests, killing a certain amount of monsters or bosses, or by contacting the Weapon Upgrade NPC in Central Flarine.

The process of upgrading a weapon, equipment Set piece, or Whetblade requires visiting the NPC [Armor] Boboko in Central Flarine and paying her an upgrade cost that is based on a specific number of Bars. The higher the upgrade level, the higher the number of bars are required to complete it. The cost of the upgrades will be lower if have more than one of the upgrade item materials.

In Chapter 2: Season 5, the way you upgrade your weapon and equipment sets has changed a bit. Before, you could seek out an Upgrade Bench and pay a set amount of Bars to upgrade your weapon or equipment to an increased quality. You could continue to do this until you reached a maximum upgrade level for the weapon or equipment, after which the upgrades would reset.

You can still do this, however, the process is high on RNG and low on agency. Instead, you're better off visiting stores and buying equipment that has low upgrade levels but good base scores and stat distributions. These will then have a chance at gaining you the highest tier benefits and blessings.

The majority of players will prioritize upgrades to the weapons they are most likely to use to allow them to progress quicker. Players should also upgrade the weapons that their squadmates use to make them stronger. For instance, Shepard should consider upgrading the M92F to unlock the Beretta M93R to make it more useful when paired with biotic specialists like Grunt and Tali.

Jewels

Jewels can be used to improve the stats of a character or to provide additional effects on weapons and armor. They can be created using an process known as jewelry crafting, in which you combine a gem and a number of specific reagents at a jewelry table. The higher the grade of the gemstone, the better the secondary effect. These reagents can be gotten from Treasure Goblins and World Bosses around the world, or through salvaging Legendary Gear. You can also purchase them from The Jeweler for gold and a Scattered Prism.

The quality of a jewel can be improved by the Jeweler, in stages that range from Crude to Royal. Based on the tier of the jewel it will give different stat boosts when inserted into weapons, gear and jewelry.

The Jeweler is able to create the highest levels of gems except for the rare and legendary ones which require an appropriate level to obtain. Jewels can be replaced by another jewel without damaging the original. However it is only possible to replace a jewel in an item of equipment once.

It is normal to use more gems for aesthetic reasons. Apart from improving performance, the diamonds create an area that is stronger than steel, so the repeated friction from pivots won't cause harm as easily.

A Glyphmaster can offer glyphs to improve the appearance of your shields and weapons. These glyphs offer a small boost in power and can be swapped, but they're not guaranteed to show up as loot. Glyphs can be upgraded as jewelry, by visiting the Jeweler for gold, and also a scattered Crystal. Glyphs can also be removed from the inventory, and they are returned to the inventory. Other upgrade components, such as traits and aegis, aren't swappable and are only recoverable by using an Upgrade Extractor or salvaging them using the Black Lion Salvage Kit or an Ascended Salvage Tool.

Trinkets

Trinkets are items of equipment that offer many small but useful benefits to your hero. They can be acquired starting in the areas of starting as loot, personal story rewards, from vendors, and by doing road interactions. They may also be crafted by jewelers and later found or purchased from the Trading Post.

The first trinkets that a player unlocks will be the cloak, which grants a small but useful bonus to speed of movement and the ability to escape. After that, they can purchase amulets, rings and necklaces in a similar fashion to how the player can acquire armor and weapons. Each piece of gear comes with one upgrade slot that can accept either a universal upgrade or a jewel upgrade. Universal upgrades provide smaller bonuses and can be put into any kind of equipment however, jewelry cannot be replaced or upgraded, and is only compatible with certain types of trinkets.

These trinkets also grant additional bonuses and abilities that are active even when the character is not fighting. This lets a hero be more efficient when they are not active. It can also make up for the absence of good team or talent tree slots which are usually filled by the hero's Best item upgrade stats.

A good rule of thumb for trinket upgrades is to prioritize BiS (Best-in-Slot) items that you aren't planning to replace soon, followed by items with desirable stats, but less important than the iLevel of the item being upgraded. This is particularly true if an item has multiple stats you'd like to upgrade as it's usually better to upgrade just one crucial stat than two subpar ones.

Jungle players usually upgrade their yellow trinkets to a red one at the beginning of the game. Mid and top players, on the other hand they will select a green or a pink ward, based on the matchup. These choices will have a significant impact on the hero's ability to control his map.

In addition to the items mentioned above, players can also find other trinkets that form of rewards and trophies throughout the game. These can be earned through completing certain milestones within the story. For example, completing the main quest of a chapter or defeating an opponent. You can view them by selecting the achievement in the reward section of the hero's menu.
