Upgrades to an item are a way to boost the stats of an item. Depending on the type of upgrade you choose, it may increase an item's Rarity or Mark Level and increase other stats.

Item Level

Item Luck

This is especially useful in early game runs since players tend to prioritize the scaling of weapons and defenses over raw damage gains.

Luck can also increase the chance of upgrading items at the Blacksmith. This should not be confused with the Blacksmith's overall upgrade probability which increases with each level and can be further increased by using an anti-material such as a Scroll of Strength or a Jewel of Blessing.

Armor, shields and weapons can be created or spawned by using the Luck property, with a default value of 40. These items can be enhanced by using golden ingots or spined leather (depending on their material type) to add another 40 luck, or to increase the Luck of an item up to 140.

Certain items, such as the Hollow-infused weapon can also be crafted to increase the damage dealt by any skill that deals damage by 5percent. These items can be found in the shop or created with the right ingredients.

Item Failure

Not all upgrades are successful. However, there are cash shop items that allow players to boost their success rate or prevent them from losing an item in the event that the Upgrade item is unsuccessful.

The success rate of an upgrade is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the likelihood of successfully upgrading an item. This can be increased by using Additional Materials or Special materials. There are limits to the extent to which the success rates can be improved, and the overall chance of an upgrade failing can't exceed 100%..

The performance of an upgrade is also affected by the luck of that item. Every item has an average success rate of 25%, and every item with Luck increases the chance of success by 5%.
