However, they have some flaws that prevent them from being our top choice. One of the weaknesses of the Q5 is its navigation system doesn't have AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's also prone to getting stuck on socks and shoes and couldn't navigate densely packed rooms very efficiently during our tests. It doesn't also have a camera to see around corners.

Still, it's very good to consider, particularly if you're looking to save money on an Roomba from iRobot and have a mostly bare-floor home or office. It's also the only robotic vacuum/mop to score an absolute 10 out of 10 in our evaluations. This is thanks to a combination modern sensors, including a restructured light system, camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that is fully self-refill and empty its base station, and it boasts the industry's highest suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop pads.

The only drawback is that it's still quite loud which could be a problem if you run it in the morning prior to work or at night as you try to sleep.

It's also somewhat expensive, but it's not as pricey as Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra Both of which are equally capable and better-looking. If you're willing to put up some more volume and some extra cost it's a capable two-in-one that should satisfy most people.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the line robot vacuum cleaner vacuum and mop. It has a range of features that are advanced and will make you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning machine like Ecovacs top-of-the-line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It has a multifunction dock which automatically empty the vacuum's bin, refills the water tank, and cleans and dry mop pads.

The smart robot employs an array of LIDAR and structured light to draw out floor plans and identify obstacles, making it more efficient than its more expensive rivals. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards, though this wasn't 100% reliable in our tests and was sometimes confused with obstructions or power cords.

The vacuum cleaner comes with the capacity to suction up to 7,000 Pascals which is more than sufficient to do the job. It also features "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates how hard the vacuum works and also alters the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the home according to how dirty they are.

For bigger homes it's worth looking for a model with spot or zone cleaning modes that allow you to instruct the robot to clean a particular area of your house using the app or via voice commands. If you have lots of furniture, a stair-mode is also a good option. For families with busy schedules, a recharge function and resume feature that permits your robot vacuum to resume where it left off can be very beneficial.

It's also self-sufficient, with a full-featured app and a self-emptying, washable base.

The iRobot app is designed to guide you through an exercise in mapping which collects information about your floorplan as well as any "no go" areas you've marked on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules or to organize an automatic spot-clean. It can also be used to it to prioritize your dirtiest areas for greater efficiency. The app offers a variety of options, including seasonal suggestions, customized mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.
